The Society meets (usually) on Thursday
nights between September and April at Frederick
Gough School (click for map) in Ashby at 7:30 pm. We have been around, in one form or another, since 1881 and are considered to be one of the finest choirs in the North of England. Our repertoire ranges from Baroque to Modern and we have performed with many first-class soloists and orchestras. Rehearsals start on Thursday September 6th 2007 at Frederick Gough School at 7.30 pm. New singers are welcome (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses). There is no formal audition ( we run a Mentoring scheme ) and expert tuition is given. Contact Tessa Cotterill on 01469 533133 or email bonbymeadow@aol.com for further information |

We put on two main conerts each
season plus a concert on the last Wednesday night before Christmas, where
we are traditionally joined by the Scunthorpe Junior Cooperative Choir
and the East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band. New members are welcome so if you are interested please come along or contact the society at info@scunthorpechoral.org.uk. |

Most years we run a "Find Your Voice" course for people who would like to sing and think that they can't! or an "Improve Your Voice" course for learning more about technique, breathing and sight-reading. These have been very successful and have not only resulted in more members for our choir (and other local choirs too!) but have been enjoyable and valuable experiences. We are on a tight budget (mainly due to the high cost of hiring professional musicians) and would welcome offers of grants or sponsorship; if you would be interested in sponsoring us or donating money please contact us at sponsor@scunthorpechoral.org.uk |

Of course, we must acknowledge the leadership of our resident Chorusmaster Neville Ward. Without his undoubted musical talent and interpretative abilities we would not be where we are now The same is true of our Assistant Chorusmasters Sue Hollingworth (whose warm-ups are a positive delight!) and Avril Harding, and our Accompanist Maurice Davies who all put in a lot of work on our behalf. |
